Dunkwa United Fc president Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane believes that his team deserved to beat Premier lLeague giants Asante Kotoko in an Elite Cup meeting at the Nana Owusu Bori Park at Dunkwa-On-Offin on Wednesday.
The medical practioner cum football enthusiast, told Dunkwa-based Solar Fm moments after the game that he was highly impressed with the quality of play exhibited by his side culminating in that epic win.
“My team deserved to beat Kotoko today. You would attest to the fact that we dominated play right from the blast of the referee’s whistle and so I am not surprised that we upset Kotoko”, he said.
“Our players and technical team deserve to be lauded for how they master-minded this defeat of Kotoko. The quality of play and our purposefulness right from the start gave me that believe that we could beat Kotoko and that was evidently clear”, he stressed.
He further warned that the club is in the competition to win it but not just to participate in it.
“Our performance today but not just the win, is indicative of the fact that we are in the championship to win it but not just to be passengers. We have beaten New Edubiase and Kotoko and that should send a signal to our opponents that we really mean business”, he warned.
The bankroller of the club, who himself has an unending love for the porcupine family, had some words of praise for the club’s teeming fan base, who according to him, comported themselves before, during and after the match.
“I am particularly delighted with how our supporters have conducted themselves today, especially as in recent times, the club has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. This change in attitude by our fans cannot go without mention. They have shown that they are really our 12th man”, he stated.
Dunkwa Utd crawled from an earlier Kwadwo Poku pile driver to beat Kotoko by 2-1.
