West Ham have confirmed that versatile forward Elisha Sowunmi has signed his first ever professional contract with the club having been part of the academy set-up since the Under-9s age group, Nigeriasoccernet.com can confirm.

Joined by his family, the Nigeria eligible 17-year old winger couldn't hide his excitement over the big announcement, “It feels good to have signed my first professional contract, being a professional footballer is something I’ve thought about for so many years so for it to finally happen is such a great feeling.

“I’ve come through the age groups with players I’ve grown up alongside so to see all of us reach this point together is really special. Hopefully we can all keep pushing and improving with the U21s", he added.

Sowunmi began his journey at the Academy after transferring from Ryan FC, a grassroots club based in Chingford. He steadily advanced through the various age groups, ultimately earning a full-time scholarship in 2023. Demonstrating notable promise in his initial season with the U18s, Sowunmi showcased significant progress and development, culminating in a breakthrough 2024/25 campaign where he excelled and established himself as a key player.
