Eagles Coach Yusuf Thrilled To Boss And Beat Mali,Luxembourg
Super Eagles caretaker coach Salisu Yusuf has said he is delighted that his team not only bossed both friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg, but they also won the games.
Nigeria beat Mali 1-0 before they dumped Luxembourg 3-1.
The wins shot the three-time African champions six places up on the FIFA world rankings.
“The highlight for me for the two matches was that we imposed ourselves on both games and won,” the former Kano Pillars and Enyimba coach told AfricanFootball.com
“My style is for my team to dominate at all times and we did that. Against Mali, we could have won by a far bigger score as had at least five clear chances to finish off the game and against Luxembourg, we enjoyed 70% of the possession.
“But again above all, we won both matches as we were mandated to do by the Nigeria Football Federation.”
Critics have dismissed the Luxembourg match, saying the 146th ranked team in the world were always going to be a walkover for the Eagles.
“Before our match in Luxembourg, I watched a tape of the game between Portugal and Luxembourg, which Portugal had to fight hard before they won 2-0. It was more or less the same Luxembourg players we played against and also won,” reasoned Yusuf.
