The reign of the Houston Dynamo at US Open Cup champion is over after they lost 3-2 to the Minnesota United on Tuesday evening.

Houston, who had defeated the Austin Bold in the Fourth Round of the Cup last week, followed a familiar script, taking the lead in the first half before allowing their opponent into the game in the second. Against the Bold, Houston had held on for a 3-2 win, but this time the score line was reversed by Minnesota.

Darwin Quintero scored twice, as he had in the previous round in a 4-1 triumph over Sporting Kansas City, and Mason Toye added the winner with a minute to go in regulation at the BBVA Compass Stadium as Minnesota set up a quarter-final match up against either FC Dallas or New Mexico United.

Also easing through to the quarter-finals were Atlanta United who saw off the Columbus Crew 3-2. Brandon Vazquez scored twice including what turned out to be the winner for the defending MLS champions.

Atlanta would appear, at least on paper, to have a clear road to the semi-finals with a game against either FC Cincinnati or Saint Louis FC of the USL in the quarter-finals.

Five of the six remaining games in the Fifth Round are on tap on Wednesday as in addition to the games in Dallas and St. Louis, DC United plays New York City FC, the Orlando City SC welcome in the New England Revolution and the Portland Timbers host the LA Galaxy.

The sixth and final game of the round comes on Thursday when LAFC entertains the San Jose Earthquakes.

LAFC are priced at 9/4 to win the MLS Cup this season with LA Galaxy 9/1 and DC United 12/1.
