The Houston Dynamo opened their campaign to repeat as US Open Cup champions on Tuesday with a 3-2 victory over the Austin Bold FC.

Tomás Martínez, Ronaldo Peña and Matías Vera were all on target for the hosts at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston as the Dynamo took a comfortable advantage into the dressing room at half time.

However, the Bold struck back through Xavier Báez and Isaac Promise in the first 15 minutes of the second half to push Houston all the way.

The Dynamo moves on to the Round of 16 and will play either FC Dallas or Oklahoma City Energy FC. Dallas and Oklahoma City meet Wednesday, at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU.

Meanwhile, over on another college campus, this time at Lindenwood University in the Northwest suburbs of St. Louis, there was an upset as USL team Saint Louis FC got the better of the Chicago Fire from the MLS, 2-1 at the Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.

Austin Martz and Guy Abend gave the hosts the early lead with Nemanja Nikolic scoring what turned out to be just a consolation from the penalty spot midway through the second.

With either FC Cincinnati or Louisville City as the opponent in the Round of 16, Saint Louis FC has a real opportunity to make it to the Quarterfinals.

There are nine games on the slate on Wednesday, and potentially a 10th if the postponed match-up between Charleston Battery and Atlanta United is played.

By far the most intriguing is New Mexico United, the leaders of the Western Conference in USL taking on the Colorado Rapids, bottom of the Western Conference in the MLS.

New Mexico United are 17/4 to win the game, with Colorado 1/2 and the draw 16/5.
