Roly Bonevacia can help lead Western Sydney back into contention next season if he gets a new deal, says striker Mitchell Duke.

Wanderers are virtually out of the running to make the Finals Series this season, after falling 12 points behind the top six.

Though there are eight games still to play this term, the club are able to cast an eye to next season and there's a chance they might not keep Bonevacia.

Roly has been massive and when he turns it on he is a very hard player to stop.

The Dutchman's contract will end in May, with Perth Glory reported to be chasing his signature.

Duke, speaking after Bonevacia's man-of-the-match performance in the 3-1 victory away to Adelaide United, said it was a good idea for the club to keep players of his ability.

"They should make that their main priority because you want to build as strong a team as you can for next season," he added. "We want to compete, win trophies, win the title.

"Roly has been massive and when he turns it on he is a very hard player to stop. Hopefully he can continue that form because if he's consistent he will be a huge factor for us doing the job in the final third."

Coach Markus Babbel has yet to make a decision about the 27-year-old former Wellington player, having told him he needed to play at his best consistently.

"This is what I expect from a player with this quality - not show it once in two or three months, show it regular," he said after the United win. "This is the next target for him, to show the same performance because it was not only that he scored the goal or did an assist, he was also fantastic working against the ball and helped the team a lot."

Western Sydney are 16/5 to win their next game against Perth Glory, who are 17/20 with the draw 14/5.

Wanderers are 16/1 to win 1-0.
