Former Nigeria international and long-serving goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba has officially announced his retirement from professional football, revealing plans for a novelty match in his honour to celebrate a remarkable career that spanned over two decades, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Aiyenugba shared the news with Abdul Momoh, CEO of Flash Media, confirming that the commemorative event will be held at the Kwara State Stadium. He noted that invitations will be sent to top football personalities and stakeholders from across the world. One of the most symbolic moments of the day, he said, will be stepping onto the pitch with his son.

“It will be a dream come true to see my son and me at the goal posts facing each other as I hand over the mantle to him,” he expressed.

Aiyenugba’s illustrious journey saw him rise from the Nigeria Premier League before achieving continental glory. He won back-to-back CAF Champions League titles with Enyimba in 2003 and 2004, along with four Nigeria Premier League titles during his successful spell with the Aba giants.
