Lucas Rodríguez scored twice and there were also goals for Wayne Rooney and Paul Arriol in the comfortable win over the expansion franchise as the visitors moved back to within a point of the Philadelphia Union, who still have the top mark in the Eastern Conference.
DC United, 12/1 to win the MLS Cup, will stay on the road this weekend when they head down to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Georgia for a clash with Atlanta.
The latter have been rounding into form in recent weeks after a slow start to the campaign.
