Ghana international attacker David Accam scored with a crucial header and inspired Chicago Fire to snatch an important away point at Columbus Crew after a fight-from-behind 2-2 draw in the American Major League Soccer on Friday night.
The 24-year-old had been the lone man working all night to loosen the gagged defensive wedlock of Crew after Sierra Leonean forward Kei Kamara had scored twice in either halves to put them ahead.
Kamara, a personal friend of Accam, has stolen the show with a brace and seemed to have determined who would return from the match with the maximum points.
But after Accam had had a powerful piledriver deflected away by the Crew keeper late in the first-half, he returned after the break to inspire Frank Yallop's men to continue their dominance over their biggest rivals.
Nigerian international Kennedy Igboananike had worked himself into space inside the box but the close marking of a Crew defender caused his cross to deflect off his body before spurning around midair to Accam who had already outsmarted his marker to head the ball into the far right corner, leaving Steve Clark completely beaten.
After Accam's goal, Fire gained more venom and impetus to push to the leveller. American-born half-Ghanaian Quincy Amarikwa was brought on and he punched his fist into the night air in agony as his cracking volley could only test the durability of the goal post.
But just when Crew thought they were booking their first ever win over Fire in four games, Jamaican international Jason Johnson stepped out of the dug-out and claimed a crucial leveller in the 94th minute though Accam had denied a brace moments earlier by Clark.
