Coventry’s winless Premier League start matches unwanted Crystal Palace record

Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard, have become only the second club in Premier League history to have no goals and no points after their opening four matches.

Their latest defeat came against Brighton, who scored five times. Coventry have yet to find the net or collect a point since returning to England’s top flight.

The club’s start matches the record set by Crystal Palace in the 2017/2018 season, when the London side also had no goals and no points after four games.

A similarly poor beginning has occurred three times in the wider history of English football’s top division. Derby County endured the same record after four matches in the 1899/1900 season, followed by Stoke in 1906/1907 and Preston in 1924/1925.
