Cote d’Ivoire beat Somalia to make it two wins from two in CAN 2027 qualifying

Cote d’Ivoire secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Somalia in Group C on the second matchday of the CAN 2027 qualifiers, with Yann Gboho scoring late to settle a tight contest.

The Elephants controlled the match for long periods, recording 77% possession compared with Somalia’s 23%, but struggled to turn their dominance into clear chances.

Nicolas Pepe came close shortly before half-time, only to miss an opportunity in the 45th minute. Elye Wahi then had another opening in the 56th minute, but Cote d’Ivoire remained unable to find a way through the Somali defence.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 89th minute when Gboho scored the winning goal, sparing Cote d’Ivoire further frustration and securing three valuable points.

The result gives Cote d’Ivoire six points from their opening two matches and represents a positive start for manager Herve Renard.
