Maurice Cooreman, Akwa United coach, has set his eyes on the 2016 Federation Cup as he is apprehensive of missing out of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title. This follows Akwa’s 2-3 Week 27 home loss to Enugu Rangers and he believes the Federation Cup would compensate Uyo fans for their support. However, Cooreman, who adduced the defeat to fatigue said, “We will put in our best to win the Federation Cup to compensate for this loss.” Akwa no doubt, have been having a string of inconsistent performance since the Belgian returned from suspension and he said, “Playing three matches in five days make the players to be tired and they could not perform very well today.” Akwa woes on the Week 27 fixtures started with an own goal in the third minute. “When you score an own goal in a match, everybody’s enthusiasm is down and that gives confidence to the away team,” said Cooreman. Akwa, who are the defending champions of the Federation Cup  have qualified for the round of eight in the 2016 edition
