Confederation Cup Match Report: Ten-man Hearts of Oak crush Djoliba in Bamako
Ten-man Hearts of Oak gained first leg advantage by beating AC Djoliba 2-1 in Bamako in Friday night in their CAF Confederation Cup penultimate qualifying round tie.
The Phobians took a giant step towards reaching the final stage with the vital away win.
After a goalless first half, Hearts turned on the style by snatching the opener on 54 minute through leading scorer Gilbert Fiamenyo.
The burly striker walked the ball into a yawning after the Djoliba goalkeeper clashed with his defender.
Youngster Paul Acquah doubled the lead in the 63rd minute when he flicked the ball over an on-rushing defender before firing past the goalkeeper.
But Hearts were reduced to ten men when captain Robin Gnagne picked up his second yellow card for a high foot challenge.
Two minutes later, Djoliba reduced the deficit from the spot when goalkeeper Abdoualye Soulama felled a player inside the box.
The return leg will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium on 03 May.

The only person destroying kotoko is OTUMFUO and until the day he is no longer in the affairs of kotoko, the team ll continue to sink!! This was a king who said that, he has secured some contracts with a Chinese firm to construct a sports stadium but we have been waiting for more decades of his reign with nothing!! How many boards has this king dissolved eversince he became the Ashanti patriarch? Countless and how many boards has he formed? Uncountable! How about interim CEOS,interim mgt etc? Shockingly amazing!! In this modern era, when football is a big businees corporate entity, this Kong has turned this once great club into a commercial poultry farm with him as the old man sitting on top! This king has failed all Ashanti's with his policies w.r.t kotoko and is high time, he open or float shares for serious minded football minds to take over!! He can buy the majority share or he can the ceremonial head with vested interests!! Kotoko was bigger than TP MAZEMBE but now, the former stood like a dwarf compared to a giant(tp) thanks to an archaic and old fashion ideas by a king who should know better!!! This is a man who has stayed most of his life in advanced world buy still clinged to old fashion ideas!! Enough is enough and is about that time, we tell this man the absolute truth regardless of the consequences!! He started well but he .......

I am so happy for the Phobians because of making Ghana proud though I am a Kotoko fan. The fact is he who deserves praise and honour should be accorded them. The Malians can still be dangerous in Accra. The Algerians did it in Kumasi, BARCA also did it in Paris likewise Napoli in Wolfsburg. Hearts have to reach the money zone to recoup some of the money they have spent so far. Congrats, Hearts.
