Warri Wolves technical adviser, Ard Sluis, says the exploits of former Nigerian stars, Finidi George and Kanu Nwankwo, during their playing days with Dutch giant, Ajax Amsterdam was  the key reason he accepted to work  in Nigeria.

Finidi and Kanu were members of the Ajax side that dominated Dutch football in the mid-90's and also won the UEFA Champions League in 1995.

The Dutchman was unveiled as handler of the Seasiders early in the season following Sam Okpodu's resignation.

An unknown figure in Nigeria  before taking charge at  the Warri-based outfit, the  former goalkeeper told Completesportsnigeria.com that he  accepted  the offer to work in the West African nation because of his huge love and respect for the two former Super Eagles stars.

"George and Kanu are well respected in the Netherlands because of their impressive showing for Ajax during their time at the club," Sluis told Completesportsnigeria.com in Warri.

"People in the Netherlands still remember them and their exploits for Ajax till today.

"When the offer to manage a club in Nigeria came my way, I never hesitated as it offered me the chance to discover more things about Nigerian football.

"The respect I have for the two and the impression they have on me made it impossible to turn down the offer."
