City sign midfielder Cabrera
Uruguayan midfielder Javier Cabrera has become Melbourne City's latest off-season signing.
The 27-year-old, who can play as an attacking midfielder or out wide, has joined on a two-year deal.
His signing was announced just after City completed a two-year deal with Socceroos holding midfielder Joshua Brillante.
I enjoy playing free-flowing, attacking football and helping create chances for my teammates.
Javier Cabrera
Cabrera, who has played in Spain, Uruguay, Mexico and Argentina, spent last season in his home country with Montevideo Wanderers.
City director of football Michael Petrillo said: "Javier is an exciting, creative player who is as comfortable out wide as he is playing centrally as an attacking player.
"He has a lot of experience in highly competitive top divisions in Uruguay, Argentina and Mexico and will help provide the creative spark and attacking ability our game style demands."
Cabrera said he was looking forward to testing himself in the A-League under coach Erick Mombaerts.
"The club has clear ambitions and focus to play its football in an exciting, attacking style and I'm looking forward to contributing to its future success with our new head coach," he added. "I enjoy playing free-flowing, attacking football and helping create chances for my teammates."
Brillante, who has played five times for Australia, has arrived from Sydney FC.
He made 79 appearances for the Sky Blues and played a crucial role in the club winning two five trophies including back-to-back Premier's Plates and last season's championship.
Brillante had his first A-League spell with Gold Coast United, then played for Newcastle Jets before earning a move to Serie A side Fiorentina.
City have also confirmed the re-signing of centre back Curtis Good on a two-year deal.
Melbourne City are 5/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final.
