Nigeria's Chuba Akpom is at the verge of joining championship side, Birmingham City from Ajax FC, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Report from Talksport say a deal for a season long loan has been reached with Ajax and the former Arsenal striker will be returning to the championship.

The deal comes with an option to buy the 29-year-old if the Blues secure promotion to the English Premier League.

Akpom will leave Ajax after he was reportedly banished from first-team training earlier this summer.

It followed a loan spell at French side Lille during the second half of last season.

Reports have it that his former side, Middleborough came with a late bid to snap the deal, but it all look done and dusted for Akpom to Birmingham City.
