"?Chelsea's stars will not be in line for cash bonuses for achieving Champions League qualification - after the club failed to insert such clauses into their contracts.

The Blues' first-team squad did not take a hit to their wages after they failed to finish in the top four positions in last season's Premier League table, according to the "?Daily Mail, and will therefore not be in line to receive a bonus if they qualify for UEFA's flagship club competition at the end of the current campaign.

Chelsea finished in 10th place in 2015/16 after a season mired with problems on and off the field, but despite missing out on achieving any semblance of the targets set to them before the season began, the likes of Eden Hazard, John Terry and Diego Costa suffered no reduction in their salaries following their mid-table finish.

Such a move ensured that Hazard still pocketed his reported £200,000-a-week wages even though the Belgium attacker was a shadow of the player that graced England's top flight during the 2014/15 campaign.

Chelsea are believed to be one of the footballing sides that do not include additional clauses in the contracts of their star players, with sources claiming that the Londoners prefer to reward them for winning silverware instead of the their personal performances on the field.

Therefore, should Antonio Conte guide his charges back into the Champions League next term, none of his stars will be handed extra cash incentives for doing so - a far cry from other clubs which would readily hand out bonuses to their players if a similar scenario played out.

Chelsea currently lie in second place in the table with 25 points from their opening 11 league matches, and are in the midst of a five-match winning streak. Early pace setters Liverpool sit one place and one point above Conte's men, while Manchester City and Arsenal are a further point behind in third and fourth respectively.
