Chelsea prepare six-year contract for Monaco’s Lamine Camara after €55m accord

Chelsea have agreed a €55m deal with Monaco for midfielder Lamine Camara, ending uncertainty over a transfer that had appeared close to collapsing.

The 22-year-old Senegalese player will move to Chelsea after the two clubs reached an agreement for his transfer, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. The deal had been in doubt, but Monaco have ultimately accepted the proposal for the midfielder.

Camara is expected to undergo a medical in the near future before completing his move to Stamford Bridge. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that the player will then sign a six-year contract with Chelsea, with the agreement also including an option for an automatic one-year extension.

The proposed length of the contract means Camara could remain with the Blues for up to seven years if the additional season is triggered. However, the transfer is still subject to the completion of the medical and the formal signing of the agreement.

Camara has made 75 appearances for Monaco since joining the club from Metz two years ago. During that time, he has scored six goals and provided 11 assists.

His departure will bring an end to his spell with Monaco, where he established himself as an important midfield option after arriving from Metz. The French club have now agreed to sell him despite the negotiations reaching a stage at which the transfer appeared to be at risk.

Chelsea’s agreement with Monaco represents the latest step in a deal that has taken an uncertain course. Romano has confirmed the €55m fee, while Jacobs has provided details of the proposed contract, including the six-year term and the possible extension.

The move will become official once Camara has completed his medical and signed the required documents. Until then, the transfer remains pending, although the agreement between Chelsea and Monaco means the Senegalese midfielder is set to continue his career with the London club.

Camara’s record for Monaco stands at six goals and 11 assists in 75 matches. He joined the club two years ago from Metz and is now poised to leave after Chelsea and Monaco settled on the financial terms of his transfer.
