Chelle Backs Nnadi to Shine After €6m Move to Marseille
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has expressed strong confidence in Tochukwu Nnadi following the midfielder’s move to French Ligue 1 giants Olympique Marseille, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Nnadi completed his transfer to Marseille on Monday from Belgian Pro League side Zulte Waregem, signing a long-term contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2030. The French heavyweights reportedly paid €6 million to secure the services of the 22-year-old defensive midfielder.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Chelle described Nnadi as a player whose qualities had always suited a higher level, insisting the move to a top European league was long overdue. The Malian tactician praised the midfielder’s physical strength, pace, and aggression, particularly highlighting his ability to win back possession and read the game through timely interceptions.
“I thought he should have been playing in a bigger league a long time ago. He’s fast, strong, aggressive in winning the ball back, and can make a lot of interceptions,” Chelle said.
Nnadi arrives in Marseille after an impressive spell with Zulte Waregem, where he made 58 appearances, scoring one goal and providing two assists. His performances in Belgium earned him growing recognition as one of Nigeria’s most promising midfield enforcers.
The former Botev Plovdiv player was also part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he made one appearance during the tournament. With his move to Marseille, Nnadi will now be hoping to establish himself at the club level and strengthen his case for a more prominent role with the Super Eagles.
