Cameroon held by Congo as AFCON 2027 qualifying race remains open

Cameroon were held to a 1-1 draw by Congo on Tuesday as both sides shared the points in the second round of qualifying for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Red Devils took the lead in the 24th minute after a well-organised first-half display. Geltany Stalgout Bantsiele finished off a dangerous Congo counter-attack to put the hosts ahead.

Cameroon struggled before the interval but returned with greater purpose after half-time. The Indomitable Lions increased the pressure and drew level in the 53rd minute.

Mahamadou Nagida’s powerful cross led to an unfortunate handball by Congo goalkeeper Melvin Zinga, allowing Cameroon to restore parity.

Both teams made changes and pushed forward during the final 15 minutes in search of a winner, but neither side created the decisive moment. The score remained level until the final whistle.

The result leaves Group G finely balanced, with Congo and Cameroon continuing their battle for qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
