Rivers United skipper Festus Austin has asserted that the Pride of Rivers would be ready for Liberian side, Watanga in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.

The Pride of Rivers stormed to the league title with three games before the end of the recently concluded season but the club must beat the Liberian side and reigning champions, Wydad Casablanca of Morocco before qualifying for the group stage of the Champions League.

Last season Rivers United defeated Young Africans of Tanzania in the first preliminary round but fell short against Sudanese, Al Hilal of Sudan in the second preliminary round.

Austin disclosed that they are aware of the hurdles before them but that they are undaunted in their quest to pick a group stage ticket this term and as such are not scared about the prospect of meeting Wydad Casablanca before achieving that.

“It is a good draw by my understanding and we hope to have a good team that can face the Liberian and even our next opponents after then,” Austin stated.”We shall be ready for them because we are close to the start of our preparations knowing that not much has changed since team since we won the league title.”
