Nigeria's Rivers United earned a slim win over defending champions, USM Algiers in the first leg of quarter final of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

A goal by Augustine Okejepha was all the Nigerian representatives needed to win the first installment of the fixture at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Abubakar Adamu's well-executed assist from a corner kick was struck powerfully by Okejepha at the edge of the box to give the hosts the win.

The Pride of Rivers could not increase the lead after several missed chances as the tie ended 1-0.

The reigning champions will host the Nigerian side in the return leg on Sunday next week in Algiers, Algeria.
