The players of Rivers United have been tasked by Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), to maintain the nation's comeback in African football by winning their final group match in the CAF Confederation Cup by the necessary goal margin.

To be one of the two qualifiers from the group, the Nigerian flag bearers must defeat Dream FC of Ghana in their matchup. Rivers United has to win to even the score with the Ghanaian team, who have already accumulated 12 points from five games. After that, goals differential will be taken into consideration, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Elegbeleye urged Uyo football fans to embrace and support Rivers United, saying the NPFL Club has the ability to complete the task.

“Rivers United is today our national club and on Sunday, we shall all be united nationwide in support of Rivers United.

"Our brothers and sisters in Uyo should adopt Rivers United on Sunday, roll out the drums and fill the stands in solidarity with our national club because they are playing to keep Nigeria among the elite clubs in Africa,” declared the NPFL Boss.

In order to ensure that Nigeria remains in the top 12 rankings and secure two representatives each for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United have to advance to the next round according to CAF club tournament calculations.
