CAF Excos make key decisions for upcoming competitions
The CAF Executive Committee (EXCO), chaired by President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has approved the match calendar for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, which will be held from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Six cities—Rabat, Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakech, Fes, and Tangier—and nine stadiums have been selected to host Africa’s premier football tournament, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
In other competition updates, the EXCO announced a revised schedule for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024. The tournament will now kick off on August 2, with the final taking place on August 30, 2025.
For women's football, the EXCO approved the dates for the Women Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025, scheduled for April 22-30. The two finalists will earn berths in the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup in the Philippines later that year.
The EXCO also approved a new format for the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (U-17 AFCON) Morocco 2025 qualifiers, expanding the number of participating teams from 12 to 16. This change reflects CAF's commitment to developing youth football and providing more opportunities for young players across the continent.
Finally, the CAF Executive Committee announced the opening of the bidding process for several future competitions, including the Women Champions League (2025-2027), the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 AFCON (2026-2028), and the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 AFCON (2027, 2029, and 2031).
