With a 1-0 win against RB Leipzig at home on Sunday, Wolfsburg reclaimed top place in the nascent Bundesliga table, although the hosts' success was overshadowed by a fan falling in the stadium.
Soon after the interval, Wolfsburg took the lead when left-back Jerome Roussillon was the first to react to a loose ball.
When it was revealed that a supporter had fainted during the game and was transported to hospital following emergency care, the hosts' celebrations were halted.
"It's not right to rejoice in times like this," Wolfsburg midfielder Maximilian Arnold remarked.
"As a club, we're all thinking about something else right now."
Wolfsburg is the only team in Germany's top division to have won all three games this season under new coach Mark van Bommel.
