Bundesliga side Schalke 04 have thrown Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng out of its squad with 'immediate effect', the German outfit announced on Monday.

The 28-year-old has been told to look elsewhere in a massive shake-up at the club following their embarrassing 2-0 defeat in Cologne.

The German side has cracked the whip to instill discipline in the team by releasing the suspended Ghanaian international alongside Sidney Sam while Marco Höger has been slapped with suspension.

"Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam have been released with immediate effect. Marco Höger is suspended from training and first-team action up to and including Saturday, 16th May,"a statement read on their official website.

The Royal Blues were beaten 2-0 at the RheinEnergieStadion to leave their hopes of qualifying for Europe hanging by a thread, and general manager Horst Heldt had promised action would be taken.

Boateng joined Schalke from AC Milan in a 10 million pound move and showed a strong performance in his first season.

But he has turned out to be a passenger this season with  poor performances for the Royal Blues, leading to the termination of his contract at the club.

Boateng, a former Ghana international, was among the top earners at the Ruhr valley club.

The news will delight many Ghanaian fans who have been unhappy with the conduct of the enforcer which led to his expulsion from the Black Stars camp during the country’s wrecked World Cup campaign.

He was accused of verbally attacking former coach Kwesi Appiah, forcing the Ghana FA to throw him out of the team’s camp.

His problems were compounded after struggling to hold himself down in a Schalke shirt this term as pressure mount on manager Roberto Di Matteo.

They have won just once since beating Real Madrid in their Champions League second round second leg game at the Santiago Bernabeu and have four league wins this calendar year.

Schalke sit in the final Europa League qualifying spot in sixth with two games left but they are just two points ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen and four ahead of Hoffenheim.
