Breaking News: Referee Rajindraparsad Seechurn sent home from Nations Cup after dubious penalty for Equatorial Guinea
Referee Rajindraparsad Seechurn who officiated Equatorial Guinea’s controversial Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal win over Tunisia has been sent home, GHANASoccernet.com can exclusively reveal.
This decision by CAF has sent a strong message to the referee who will be appointed for Thursday’s semi-final against Ghana in Malabo allaying fears the Black Stars would be robbed.
The Mauritian has paid the price for his dubious penalty call which allowed the hosts to equalize in stoppage time.
With seconds of additional time remaining and the hosts trailing 1-0, Ivan Bolado went down under a seemingly innocuous challenge in the box.
Seechurn pointed to the penalty spot much to the surprise of the Tunisian players who protested vehemently and nearly beat up the referee.
He was then chased from the pitch by the Tunisian players after Javier Balboa had won the game with superb free-kick, with one player aiming a kick at the official.

the referee gave EQ the opportunity to take that wonder free kick- without this particular referee and his actions we wouldn't have perhaps seen the second goal by EQ.

Where is the source of this story! Not on CAF site! Pure lies! If he isn't chosen to handle any of the remaining matches, does that mean punishment? Is he the only official not chosen for the remaining games? Tweaaa!

Conspiracy Theory????? CAF always uses referees as scape-goats. They are the master-minds in these situations but they pretend and shift the blame on the referees to fool the public. Corruption at the highest level in football.

I watched it a few times on youtube. The defender's knee and thigh brought or caused the forward to tumble. The forward was more than happy to go down in the box. The referee had only one opportunity to make up his mind. People watching may only focus on the defender's hands but look down and notice his thigh and knee being too close to the forward.

haha the referee just made a mistake like any other referee and am sure it's not deliberate from my point of view The Tunisian player should have just guarded the ball and avoid even a mimimal contact How many times have we seen high profile referees waving away blatant stone wall penalty awards at the highest footballing level Tunisian players and officials misbehaved bringing the game into disrepute and should be punish by CAF
