Breaking News: CAF awards Nigeria 3 points, three goals and fines Libya
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed Nigeria's Super Eagles a significant boost in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Following the botched match against Libya, CAF awarded three points and three goals to Nigeria, solidifying their position at the top of the group.
Libya in an attempt to pay back what they felt what an inhospitable treatment from Nigeria during their visit for the first leg of the qualifiers kept Nigeria at their airport for over 18 hours. This forced the return leg to be cancelled and the Super Eagles retiring to their base.
The African football governing body has now taken a stand after reviewing all informations and Libya will face the rot of the law.
With this verdict, Nigeria now boasts 10 points from four matches, establishing a comfortable four-point lead over their nearest rivals, Benin.

Libya, on the other hand, remains at the bottom of the group with a solitary point.
The Super Eagles' next match against Benin in Abidjan next month has become a pivotal encounter. A draw would secure Nigeria's spot in the 2025 AFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco in December 2025.
In addition to the points and goals awarded to Nigeria, CAF also imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libya Football Federation.
The fine must be paid within 60 days of notification of the decision.
