Bournemouth midfielder Malachi Ogunleye has pledged his international allegiance to Nigeria, opting to represent the West African nation over England, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Born to a Nigerian father, Ogunleye, who grew up in England, is eligible to play for both countries.

"I've had some recognition from the newspapers in Nigeria, so it's been nice to see that," Ogunleye told Bournemouth's official website.

The 19-year-old's decision follows his second visit to Nigeria in March, where he was impressed by what he saw.

Ogunleye's commitment to Nigeria makes him eligible for the 2025 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in South Africa.
