Victor Boniface expressed his joy at returning to the pitch following a three-month injury layoff, Nigeriasoccenet.com reports.

The striker, who underwent surgery for an adductor injury in January, made his first appearance of the year in Bayer Leverkusen’s DFB Pokal win over Fortuna Dusseldorf last week.

The Nigeria international, coming off the bench, scored in Leverkusen’s UEFA Europa League 2-0 victory against West Ham United on Thursday night.

"I feel good, I feel happy to be playing football again," he said after the game, acknowledging the challenges of returning from a lengthy injury.

"I missed a lot of games and I am still trying to come back. I am happy to come and help my team."

Boniface has now scored five in six Europa League appearances this season, providing one assist.
