Everton winger Yannick Bolasie says he will use the Africa Cup of Nations as pre-season for next year as he looks to earn a place in Marco Silva's plans.

The DR Congo winger has endured a tough couple of years following his £25million move to Goodison Park from Crystal Palace back in the summer of 2016.

Bolasie spent a year out of action due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, while he has had loan spells with both Aston Villa and Anderlecht in the past 12 months.

Now still looking to earn a place in Silva's plans at Everton, Bolasie is hoping to use the AFCON as pre-season before pushing for a place at Goodison Park.

He said: "Logically, if I really wanted to think [about it], I'd just put my career first and say I'm going back to Everton.

"I feel myself, I'm back sharp, and I'd go and do a full pre-season, which I haven't had in two years and which makes the difference to anyone's season.

"For me, it's not a case of coming here to try and turn myself around.

"I want to play at the Africa Cup of Nations to the best of my ability, but I'm also taking the tournament as preparation for pre-season going into the next season."

Everton are 7/2 to finish in the top six in the Premier League.
