Blues confirm Morata departure
Chelsea have confirmed that Alvaro Morata will sign for Atletico Madrid on a permanent deal next summer when his 18-month loan spell ends.
The 26-year-old Spain international forward was the Blues' record signing when he arrived in a £60million deal from Real Madrid in summer 2017.
We would like to thank Alvaro for his contribution and wish him the best of luck for the future.
Chelsea statement
Morata made a bright start, but managed just 24 goals in 72 appearances before being loaned to Atletico Madrid on an 18-month loan deal in January.
He enjoyed his return to Spain with six goals in 17 games for Diego Simeone's side and, despite Frank Lampard replacing Maurizio Sarri as head coach at Stamford Bridge, Morata will not be returning in 12 months' time.
Chelsea posted on their website: "We would like to thank Alvaro for his contribution and wish him the best of luck for the future."
Chelsea are 25/1 to win the Premier League, while they are 5/4 to secure a top-four finish in Lampard's first season at the helm.
