Black Queens players considering premature retirement over bonus row, says captain Mercy Myles
Black Queens captain Mercy Myles says her teammates are considering retiring from the national team following the delay in payment of winning bonuses.
The national women’s team are reluctant to leave their M-Plaza hotel base in Accra after authorities failed to redeem their pledge of $11,000 for winning gold at the 2015 All Africa Games in Brazzaville.
The players feel they have been handed a raw deal in a widely criticized episode in the West African country.
And skipper Mercy Myles has revealed her teammates are considering calling time on their international careers.
“We are just making sure that what is rightfully ours we take it before we go, then we advise ourselves as players because it is so glaring that the environment is not favouring some of us,” she told Accra-based Starr FM
“We cannot devote all our time for the nation and at the end, what we do is not even recognized because as a woman you cannot play football your entire life.”
