Birmingham City manager Garry Rowett is really impressed with Josh Cogley's rise and is eager to give more youngsters opportunities this season.

The young right-back who captained the club's under-21s last season impressed during his run out at Solihull Moors and is now training with the first team squad.

Garry Rowett told the club's "?official website: "It's always the same, there will always be opportunities for any youngster to come through.

"But the important point is that performances have to push that to happen, and the way they are in training. That's really the key."

Following Cogley's injury last season, the young defender has caught Rowett's eye with his eagerness to work hard and become stronger.

The right-back extended his contract at the end of last season and is predicted big things at St Andrew's.

"He then got an injury, which harmed his progress, as we were looking to put him out into the league on loan.

"He has come back very, very strong. He's an excellent athlete and we saw a different side to him on Tuesday in that his composure was very good and he has been good around the First Team group.

"We really hope that this season he can kick on and get more involved.

"It's hard to throw players in without that league experience but then again, at the same time, how do you know if they are good enough unless you give them that opportunity?

"As I say, the players do have to earn the right as well and in Josh's case he will be involved for longer with us and he is training with the First Team also."?
