Birighitti linked with Mariners
Central Coast Mariners are favourites to sign goalkeeper Mark Birighitti after he was released by Melbourne City.
The 28-year-old negotiated a mutual release from Erick Mombaerts' squad after failing to play a game for them last season.
Birighitti had been signed by previous City coach Warren Joyce as an understudy to veteran Eugene Galekovic.
Though Galekovic has retired, the keeper was set to be a back-up again this season with City having Dean Bouzanis back after a spell on loan with PEC Zwolle.
Birighitti, who spent the first five seasons of his career at Adelaide United, was the first-choice for three seasons with Newcastle Jets until the end of 2015-16.
He then had a stint on the books of Swansea City before moving to Dutch club NAC Breda where he played 16 times.
The Mariners are reported to be about to sign him to replace Ben Kennedy, who was released by new coach Alen Stajcic.
Birighitti has made one appearance for Australia, in the final match of their 2013 EAFF East Asian Cup against China.
Meanwhile, Adelaide United scored four goals in the final 19 minutes of their friendly against Adelaide Raiders to win 5-0.
Coach Gertjan Verbeek fielded a strong starting side that included debutant Michael Maria on the wing, with Michael Jakobsen, Michael Marrone, Pacifique Niyongabire, Riley McGree and Nikola Mileusnic all getting on the scoresheet.
Adelaide United are 12/1 to win the A-League Grand Final and 9/1 to win the FFA Cup.
