Slaven Bilic has admitted that promotion from the Championship for West Brom this season is a must as the club belongs in the top-flight.

The Croatian was confirmed as the Baggies' new head coach earlier this month and is excited about the prospect of managing a "massive" club.

Albion parted company with Darren Moore in March and finished in the play-offs under the caretaker stewardship of Jimmy Shan.

However, West Brom lost in the semi-finals to Aston Villa, who went on to beat Derby County at Wembley and seal their return to the Premier League after a three-year absence.

Albion were relegated from the top-flight in 2017/18 and finished fourth in the Championship last term.

Bilic has also managed Croatia, Hajduk Split, Lokomotiv Moscow, Besiktas and West Ham United, guiding the Hammers to seventh and 11th in the Premier League before being sacked in 2017.

He said of his new role: "It's a massive club because of the history and the fans. They are very demanding but they are very loyal. We are going to try to come back to the Premier League this year. Short-term or long-term, this is where this club belongs.

"The club really wanted me and they showed that, which is the most important thing. I am really proud. It's a big responsibility but I am really excited to start.

"The Championship was always on my bucket list. It's one of my boxes that I wanted to tick off and now I have the opportunity to be the manager of a massive club in this league.

"I would like to thank West Brom for the opportunity to manage such a big club. It's a privilege. I’m 'ot English, but I have spent lots of my life playing or managing here and it was my wish to come back."

West Brom can be backed at 3/1 to be promoted from the Championship this season while Derby are 5/1 to go up and Leeds United 15/8.
