The executive committee of the Federation Beninoise de Football (FBF) has formally endorsed Gianni Infantino’s re-election as FIFA president.

FBF president Marcellin Bocove said the decision reflected the significant impact of reforms to global football governance on the organisation of the sport in Benin.

The federation’s support is based on what it regards as the positive results of investments made available to African football bodies through FIFA’s FIFA Forward programme.

Infrastructure projects completed in Benin, along with strengthened training programmes, are seen by the country’s football leaders as evidence that the model is delivering results. They want that approach to continue over the longer term.

By backing the incumbent FIFA president, Benin is also aligning its sporting policy with the continental direction promoted by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The position is intended to help secure the continuation of financial and technical support projects aimed at modernising football in Benin.
