Bellingham echoes Mourinhos referee frustrations after Real Madrid derby defeat

Jude Bellingham shared Jose Mourinho’s anger at the officiating after Real Madrid suffered a 2-1 defeat by Atletico in Sunday’s LaLiga derby (September 20).

The result leaves Real Madrid fourth in the table after seven matches, with five wins and two defeats in what has been an underwhelming start to Mourinho’s tenure.

Mourinho criticised several refereeing decisions during his post-match news conference, with Dean Huijsen’s dismissal proving particularly significant. The sending-off altered the contest, allowing Alex Grimaldo to score the resulting penalty before Jonathan David added Atletico’s second a few minutes later.

Real Madrid felt Atletico could also have finished the match with 10 men. Cristian Romero was shown only a yellow card after making a studs-up challenge on Bellingham, despite the incident being reviewed by VAR.

The Spanish side also believed Kang-in Lee should have received the same punishment as Huijsen following a rash tackle on Fede Valverde.

After the final whistle, Bellingham was seen approaching the official while repeatedly shouting: “Two red cards! Two!”
