Behich: We'll set standards high
Aziz Behich wants Australia to "make a statement" during qualification for the 2022 World Cup, as they look to rebound from their Asian Cup failure.
The Socceroos will come up against two teams they've previously faced - Jordan and Kuwait - in the second round of Asian qualifying, which will also serve as the first qualifiers for the 2023 Asian Cup.
They will also play Nepal and Chinese Taipei in Group B.
Graham Arnold's side, who are gunning for a fifth straight World Cup appearance, will start their qualifiers on 10th September when they travel to Kuwait.
At the end of this next stage, in June 2020, the group winners and four best runners-up will advance.
Left-back Behich, who plays for Istanbul Ba?ak?ehir, said: "It's going to be a tough one but we're going to set our standards high and we want to make a statement in Asia. We wanted to win the Asian Cup, we've put that behind us and we've played against Korea Republic.
"We had a great performance there with a lot of new faces. It's going to be a long campaign to qualify for the World Cup."
The Socceroos faced Kuwait in Arnold's first game in charge last October and were comfortable 4-0 winners.
The coach was happy with the draw, saying: "We have worked with 80 players across the Socceroos and Olyroos over the past year, so I believe with the depth that we have we are well positioned to deal with the qualifiers."
Arnold's side lost to Jordan at the Asian Cup, the first competitive meeting between the teams to be played on neutral soil.
Meanwhile, Graham Arnold's former team Sydney FC are 4/1 to win the 2020 A-League Grand Final.
The Sky Blues are 3/1 to win the FFA Cup.
