Bayelsa Govt expresses concern over performance of its football teams
The Bayelsa State Government on Tuesday expressed concern over the dwindling performance of its two professional football league sides, Bayelsa United FC and the Bayelsa Queens FC.
The Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo made this known as gathered by Nigeriasoccernet.com in separate meetings with the management and players of both teams at his office in Government House, Yenagoa.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, who noted that the two home sides have not lived up to expectation in the current season, said many people were worried over the dismal performance of the teams in recent times.
He pointed out that Bayelsa Queens FC which before now rarely drops any point playing at home in previous seasons, had lost some crucial home matches in the present season.
The Deputy Governor, who emphasized that the meetings were convened by government to hear from the players and officials of both teams on the cause of their unimpressive performance so far.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo, reiterated the present administration's unwavering commitment to developing the sports subsector and urged both teams to work harder to regain the enviable position that had attained in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
The two meetings, which later went into closed-door sessions had in attendance the state Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Dr Daniel Igali, The Chairman of Bayelsa United, Mr Ebiki Timitimi and his Bayelsa Queens counterpart, Pastor Robin Apreala.
