Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia is not expected to return in time for the defending LaLiga champions’ meeting with Getafe on October 10th.

Garcia sustained his injury shortly before the international break, and manager Hansi Flick is moving towards using Dominik Livakovic as his main cover while the Spain international completes his recovery.

There is currently no indication that Garcia’s rehabilitation has suffered a setback. However, reports from Diario AS say Barcelona sources believe Flick and the club’s medical staff are taking a cautious approach to his return.

That would leave Garcia sidelined for approximately four weeks. The planned absence means Livakovic is likely to continue as Flick’s preferred alternative until the first-choice goalkeeper is considered ready to play again.

Barcelona do not intend to sign another goalkeeper in January if Garcia suffers a relapse during his recovery. Flick is reportedly satisfied with the options already available to him, with Livakovic and veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny both in Catalonia.

The club will therefore continue to monitor Garcia’s progress without making changes to the goalkeeping position, provided his rehabilitation remains on schedule.
