Barcelona Eye Victor Osimhen as Potential Replacement for Lewandowski
Barcelona have reportedly added Victor Osimhen to their shortlist of potential strikers to succeed Robert Lewandowski, whose contract at the Catalan club is set to expire at the end of the season, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The 37-year-old Poland international has been a prolific presence since joining from Bayern Munich in 2022, scoring 115 goals in 179 appearances across all competitions.
With Lewandowski turning 38 in August, Barcelona appears unwilling to offer a contract extension, despite reported interest from Major League Soccer clubs. Head coach Hansi Flick has experimented with other attacking options, including Ferran Torres, but the Spaniard has yet to fully convince as a long-term solution.
As a result, the club is intensifying its search for a reliable centre-forward. According to The Athletic, Barcelona is exploring several strikers across Europe, with Osimhen and Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush of Manchester City among the alternatives.
Osimhen, currently at Galatasaray, has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most dangerous forwards thanks to his pace, aerial dominance, and clinical finishing. The Nigerian international has scored 54 goals and provided 11 assists in 67 appearances since joining the Yellow and Reds last season, making him a highly attractive option for top European clubs.
Barcelona’s pursuit of a new striker underscores their intent to prepare for life after Lewandowski while reinforcing their attacking line for the upcoming campaigns.
