Barcelona consider January move for Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall
Tottenham could face renewed interest from Barcelona in Lucas Bergvall, with the Spanish club considering a €67M offer for the Sweden midfielder during the January transfer window.
Bergvall joined Tottenham in 2024 after choosing the Premier League club over Barcelona. However, reports now suggest the La Liga side are interested in signing him, just two years after missing out on the technically gifted midfielder.
The 20-year-old agreed a new contract with Tottenham in September 2026, despite having asked to leave in June because of his limited playing time in North London.
Barcelona are understood to be assessing a possible €67M bid for Bergvall, although there has been no confirmation that an official offer has been made or that negotiations have started.
Barcelona are not the only clubs monitoring the midfielder. Napoli and Juventus are also reported to be interested, while a loan move has been suggested as one possible option to give Bergvall greater opportunities to develop elsewhere.
Tottenham’s position may have changed because of their current midfield situation. James Maddison’s serious injury has left Roberto De Zerbi’s side short of options in the centre of the pitch, meaning the club have no immediate reason to sell Bergvall.
A move to Barcelona would not guarantee the Sweden international regular football. He would face competition from Rodri, Pedri, Gavi, Marc Bernal and Frenkie de Jong for a place in midfield, making a prominent role difficult to secure.
Bergvall is currently unavailable to Tottenham because of a knee injury. He is not expected to return until the match against Leeds, when Barcelona may be watching his performance closely.
