Gareth Bale could remain with Real Madrid after the club blocked a deal which would have seen him join Chinese club Jiangsu Suning.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane has said in recent days that it would be in everyone's interests to see Bale end his six-year stay at the Bernabeu.

The Chinese Super League transfer window closes on Wednesday and there had been expectation that the Welsh international would move in a deal worth a reported £1m a week.

However the proposed deal has collapsed with Real Madrid apparently having blocked it taking place.

Zidane had made his feelings clear that he wanted to see Bale's departure this summer, saying after defeat by Bayern Munich in the USA: "We hope he leaves soon. It would be best for everyone. We are working on his transfer to a new team."

The Real manager's need to freshen up his squad was further underlined by their recent game in the USA, a 7-3 defeat at the hands of city rivals Atletico Madrid.

Bale came off the bench for the last 30 minutes in what was expected to be his last action as a Real Madrid player.

Bale joined the Spanish giants in 2013 from Tottenham and has made over 200 appearances for the club, helping them win the Champions League four times as well as the La Liga title in 2017 and the Copa del Rey in 2014.

Real Madrid's next action is in midweek when they take on Tottenham in Germany on Tuesday and then either Bayern Munich or Fenerbahce on Wednesday.

Real start the new La Liga season away to Celta Vigo on 17th August and are 4/7 for the win with Celta Vigo 5/1 and the draw 14/5.

Real are 6/4 to win the La Liga title next season with Barcelona 4/6 and Atletico 12/1.
