AYC 2015: Black Satellites account for ten-man South Africa in Group B opener with ease
Ghana strolled to a comfortable 2-0 win over ten-man South Africa in their 2015 African Youth Championship Group B opener on Monday in Mbour.
The Black Satellites were quick to come out of the blocks and shot ahead on seven minutes when defender Maphosa Modiba scored an own goal.
Ghana winger Prosper Kassim swiveled and burrowed the Amajita box before hitting the bar-line.
The Inter Allies man whipped in a carpet cross which was directed into his own net with goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi completely beaten.
South Africa lacked the creativity and could not take the match to the three-time champions.
Before the half-time whistle, striker Benjamin Tetteh scored a spectacular goal when he lobbed one over on-rushing goalkeeper Msibi for the second goal.
Just after the break, South Africa were reduced to ten men when defender Modiba picked up a second yellow for a clumsy challenge on Asiedu Attobrah.
The numerical advantage only helped Ghana to have chunk of possession but could not increase the damage
A lot of scoring chances were missed with Attobrah, Kassim and Clifford Aboagye being the worst culprits.
Ghana lost captain Joseph Owusu Bempah who had to be stretchered off in the middle of the second half and had to be replaced by Kingsley Fobi.
The Black Satellites will next face Zambia on Thursday.
