Former Super Eagles captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has called on the Nigerian media to refrain from publishing falsehoods about him, Nigeriasoccernet.com gathered.

The ex-Bolton Wanderers star clarified that he remains open to interviews and discussions about football matters but emphasized the importance of accurate reporting.

Okocha’s remarks came in response to an online report claiming he criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over the appointment of Mali-born Eric Chelle as the Super Eagles' head coach. Speaking on Lagos Talks FM, Okocha denied granting any such interview or making comments about the NFF's decision.

"I didn’t grant any interview. I don’t know why the person that wrote that story quoted me," Okocha said. "We might have similar opinions on certain things, but let it come from me."

He urged journalists to reach out directly for his views rather than fabricating stories. "If you want to talk to me, you can call me," he added.

Regarding claims that he called for the dissolution of the NFF Board, Okocha refuted the allegations, explaining his approach to addressing issues within Nigerian football.

"I have always been outspoken whenever I have something to say. I believe in what is just. Even if things are wrong in the NFF, you cannot call for the board's dissolution just like that—there’s a process; they are elected," he stated.

Okocha also highlighted his close relationships with key figures in Nigerian football, such as Ibrahim Gusau, Victor Ikpeba, Garba Lawal, and Augustine Eguavoen. He noted that he prefers direct communication over airing grievances in the media.

"If I talk to them and they don’t listen or don’t see value in what I’m saying, then I can go public," he concluded.

Okocha’s comments reflect his commitment to transparency and professionalism, as well as his continued passion for Nigerian football development.
