Aubameyang on target for Arsenal
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the only goal of the game at St James' Park as Arsenal ensured a disappointing start to Steve Bruce's time as Newcastle boss.
The home side had the better of the first half in front of their new boss, Bruce having replaced Rafael Benitez in the dugout.
Newcastle's record signing Joelinton started the game and went close to scoring while Jonjo Shelvey hit the woodwork.
It was important to start with a win, last season we started bad, so we are happy.

Unai Emery, who started with new signings David Luiz, Gabriel Martinelli, Dani Ceballos and Nicolas Pepe on the bench, would have been the more relieved to get to half-time on level terms.
However it was to get even better for the visitors just before the hour mark, poor Newcastle marking allowing Aubameyang to collect a pass from Ainsley Maitland-Niles and fire home past Martin Dubravka.
It was to prove the only goal of the game and, after the Gunners suffered two successive defeats to start last season, Aubameyang was pleased to get off to a winning start this time.
He said afterwards: "We fought today a lot. It was a great game against a good team. It was important to start with a win, last season we started bad, so we are happy.
"It is always positive for all the squad to win the first game, everyone is happy to get three points and we're looking forward to winning more games."
The Gunners play their first home game of the season next weekend with Burnley the visitors to the Emirates Stadium. Games against Liverpool and Tottenham then follow before the first international break of the season.
Arsenal are 1/4 to win next weekend with the Clarets 9/1 and the draw 5/1. Aubameyang is 11/4 to score the first goal.
