"?Aston Villa are set to miss out on transfer target Jeffrey Schlupp this January, as it looks like West Brom are favourites to sign the Leicester City man.

"?Birmingham Mail are reporting that Villa have emerged as one of the clubs interested in signing the 24-year-old, who has fallen out of favour at the Premier League champions.

Schlupp is likely to exit the King Power this month and following manager Claudio Ranieri's decision to leave him out of their FA Cup tie against Everton at the weekend a deal could be sorted soon.

Schlupp is wanted by a whole host of clubs and was the subject of a £9m bid from Crystal Palace earlier this week, however Leicester rejected the offer.

Baggies manager Tony Pulis is a long term admirer of Schlupp and has revived his interest in the Ghanaian this month.

A summer bidding war saw West Brom offer as much as £12m for the versatile midfielder but Leicester rejected all advances.

Last year's title winners are now said to be prepared to listen to offers similar to the £12m in the summer, although no fee has been agreed thus far.

Schlupp, who made 24 appearances in his side's triumphant season last year, recently signed a new deal that keeps him at the club until 2019.

Villa have enquired about his status, but West Brom's Premier League status has given them the advantage over their local rivals.

Steve Bryce may be forced to look elsewhere now as he tries to bring in the reinforcements needed for his team to push for the Championship play-offs.
