Aston Villa were held to a 2-2 draw by Brentford in the sixth round of the Premier League, despite twice taking the lead at home.

Brentford struck first after 10 minutes when Ukrainian midfielder Yehor Yarmoliuk found the net to put the visitors ahead.

Aston Villa responded almost immediately. Nicolas Jackson restored parity two minutes later, leaving the sides level at half-time.

The second half continued in a closely contested fashion, with neither team able to create another breakthrough until the closing stages.

John McGinn put Aston Villa in front in the 77th minute, moving the home side within sight of victory.

However, their advantage lasted only two minutes. Kristoffer Ajer scored Brentford’s equaliser in the 79th minute to make it 2-2.

Neither side could find a winning goal during the remaining period, and the points were shared.
