"?Aston Villa left-back Aly Cissokho is set to undergo a medical with Greek club Olympiakos, according to "?reports in Europe.

Cissokho established himself as the first-choice left-back under Roberto Di Matteo but he has fallen down the pecking order behind Jordan Amavi in recent weeks under Steve Bruce.

The 29-year-old was signed by Paul Lambert in 2014 and has struggled to fully assert himself at times, with the club previously loaning him to Porto.

Cissokho has 18-months left on his current contract but Olympiakos are confident they can secure his services on a loan deal until the end of the season.

All that stands in the way in Cissokho completing his medical, which he is expected to do so without any qualms. Cissokho has been criticised in the past for some poor performances, but has always been a hard worker for the side.

Bruce previously stood up for the player when he came under-fire after a series of blunder-prone performances, with the fans calling for him to be dropped.

"It's unfortunate. The one thing about Aly is he gives you everything he's got. He doesn't hide or shirk," Bruce said.

"(On Tuesday) He was a little bit rash I have to say. On Saturday he was doing his best to get his body in the way and it struck him in the arm, it could have struck him in the face.

"He is trying to defend his goal that's all so there's no complaints from me."?

However, with Amavi back to full fitness after a serious knee injury and looking like he has captured his best form, Cissokho is allowed to leave Villa Park to seek regular first-team opportunities.
